EARTHQUAKE SUMMARY AUGUST 17, 2010

THERE WA AN EARTHQUAKE IN THE FOLLOWING AREA'S: FLORES REGION INDONESIA 4.6, A VERY VOLCANIC AREA, KERMADEC ISLANDS NEW ZEALAND 5.2, COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY ONE OR BOTH VOLCANOS IN THE REGION WYOMING HAD TWO AFTER SHOCKS IN THE SAME AREA AS THE 4.3, 3.0, AND 2.9, VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA 4.2, IN 1949 THIS GENERAL AREA HAD AN 8.1, AND IS NOT FAR FROM ASHINGTON ST., MT ST HELEN'S, WASHINGTON STATE 2.8, THERE HAVE BEEN SINCE JAN 1, 2010 1,670 MINIQUAKES, THIS BEING THE LARGEST TO DATE, HALMAHERA INDONESIA 4.9 ANOTHER HIGHLY VOLCANIC AREA THAT NEEDS WATCHING, AND NORTHERN PERU 5.0, COULD IT BE THAT THE INDONESIA QUAKES

  • usually if the mini's are inside a volcano it means magma is on the rise. a few years ago in california's mammoth lake, there were a lot of mini-quakes and they were having big debates if they should close it down. money took over priority over safety. needs to be watched.

  • Thanks, Joe. This is very helpful. All those miniquakes are troubling...like the ground is constantly jiggling? Does that precede a major quake?
