You maybe having trouble with leaking roof even new roofs can't keep this from happening. I Have been standing on a ladder breaking ice because there is an ICE DAM so just letting you know!
The only fix is to chip it out then up in a Gutter Heat Cable:

Some roofs are more prone to ice dams than others. Depends on the construction of the roof, angles, gutters etc. We've learned this after 20+ years in the construction business. Luckily my roof is one of those that does not dam up in the winter time. Only problems we had with an ice dam was when the drain tile iced shut, then the next day it rained hard, and water backed up into our basement (not much, just enough to make some carpets all wet).

HO Hay Lots. Fingers get very cold fast, gloves just get wet then keep hands cold!
