  • W'nala, check with your gas provider to see if it would be safe to bury your tank.  If not, what about earth berming it.
  • It shouldn't be above the ecliptic yet.
  • yep, it's VENUS, don't run for the hills just yet Jim...

  • I don't think this is the direction that the comet is coming from. Shouldn't we be looking lower left? Or has NASA flipped the image?
  • Styx, how do you turn off the big gas container to the house??  We have a 500 gallon buried in the ground as we have gas which we heat with.  I never wanted gas to begin with as I hate it when we built the house but husband had to have his way.  I would have been fine with a woodstove and electric heat pump as back up.
  • Jim great practical advice.  Much appreciated.

  • If it is getting close, and this is the biggest brightest light that I have seen so far, there are some last minute things that we can do to prepare.   When the time comes, that is when you fill your water tanks, gugs, bottles etc. And if you have a big burkie the filters have to be cleaned and rinced out before you use it, or they won't work right. And if you have propane tanks for the grill, I would recoment for safty, to put then in a large plastic bag to keep the connector clean from dirt and put then in a shallow hole in the ground.  You would not want those tanks bouncing around the back yard.  Also at the last minute turn off your gas to the house.  That will help a lot.
