Not Logical at all!

I have been doing some thinking about what so many have said about the government/military comming around and collecting any food that you might have in a food shortage.  The Zettas say so.  Others have mirrored that thought.  Seems to me that it is a ploy to get you to not prepare.  Why do I say that?  Think for your self!  With the food warehouses of Wallmart, Cosco, A&P, Pick and Save, Survival stores, and so many more food supplies to pillage from, why would the government/military want a few cans of corn from you?   In a real melt down, I will also be going to Cosco, etc.  and not my neighbors.  The only way that we here can survive a meltdown is to prepare for one.  To do nothing is just plane stupid!  And to believe someone who tells you not to prepare is even stuipeder!  So think for yourself!

  • Last year, Kim, there was a nest underneath the hand rail going up the steps to the porch.  My hand hit it and they swarmed out and attacked.  I was stung 3x.  Essential oil of lavender (therapeutic grade) stopped the swelling and pain in about 15 minutes.

  • Thanks Jim for the suggestions.

  • Wasps?  Ugh.  I just had to take out several nests this summer in places they did not belong.  And one got me at the barn a few weeks ago!  I don't mind bees, wasps, but when they put their nests in places like inside of a tube gate, that isn't cool!

  • I saw a few wasps when it warmed too early.  Then we had a cold snap and I didn't see any more wasps this season, until yesterday, I saw one.  Usually bugs knock themselves out around the porch light at night, none this year.

  • Rosemary, If you are worried about offending the other party, let them make the barter and you just decide if their terms fit your needs.  If not you can go from there.  All batering is, is an offer that gets batted around untill you both agree on a deal.

  • Since there were not enough bees this spring and part of the summer, I let my peppermint go to flowers.  It is now teaming with bees and bumblebees. I have some heirloom seed, but some of them did not keep well. I have lots of hand tools. I am not good at bartering. I am always scared that I may offend the other party.

  • Sorry to hear you did not have any bees this year Jim.  We always seem to have plenty.....

  • I had another realization today.    For those of us who can't seem to grown anything except hair.  We still have hope.  There will always be interprizing people out there who survive.  And there is a system that worked for many years of bargening and trading of goods.  It was the old TRADING POST of the old West and North West.  They did not always use money.  They traded goods.   A few pelts for an ax head.  It seems to me that trading post can be set up in communities where people can trade their goods/services to each other.  Some guy with a lot of rice and salt could trade some for, say some apples.

  • I am pathetic at growing stuff, I can only grow tomatoes and grow stuff like pumpkins by accident in my compost heap.  I can grow flowers but that's it.  If I had to rely on myself for food crops I am in big big trouble.

  • Great Kim!!!!  :)

Jim, you can pollinate them yourself with a q-tip
