I eyed through the article very quickly, but can't see they mention (or did they?) the possible cause being a solar flare, although I think it did seem like a CME-caused blackout since it is so widespread.

For an x flare to truly impact us it has to be around the x8 and above range from prior occurances....this does not include situations like what Joe discribed....

the last time it hit me, my defibulator went off seven times in a row. the time before that, at a lesser one, i felt a wave go through me and almost passed out.

Well when I think of an X-flare I think of Mythi's prediction that could possibly come true for mid september (if we get more HUGE x-flares this month).

Wow Joe, I never thought of that!  But yes it could affect a pacemaker I would think.   It would be like standing in a microwave oven!
