In a way, his description reminds me of The Hunger Games, at the beginning of the game when everyone is rushing towards the cornucopia to get their supplies.  Katniss grabbed something close and got out of there.  Others lost their lives fighting over stuff.  Not the place to be when things start to fall apart.
