A large solar flare that hits Earth could do this, yes. That doesn't mean PX isn't out there or that it couldn't irritate the sun into doing this. We have had power outages before because of solar flares.

Certainly, Kim, there would be chaos...especially in the cities that absolutely have to have electricity to maintain their standard of living. But it would actually be a tremendous wake up call if the electricity went out for a week...some people would take it seriously and prepare for bigger and better grids down.

Yes there would be much loss of life without power for years since mankind has thrown out completely the old ways and are relying on an electric grid with no back up. Any how, I'd bet there would be chaos even if the grid went down for a week. And this would be enough to have people pushing for more back up sources of power such as solar and wind energy.
