The director of the Vatican Bank, Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, has been removed from his post for dereliction of duty, the Vatican says.

The bank's board of directors unanimously passed a no-confidence vote in Mr Gotti Tedeschi, a statement said.

  • I was listening to the European news. It appear that other arrest will occur this week. In the mean time some cardinal can't wait to get rid of Benoit 16th. All of them are hoping to become the new pope and have in mind to force Benoit 16th to resigned. This is not a very catholic behavior and does show how rotten the system is.

  • Thanks, Alex.

That is true about Wikipedia.  Colleges don't allow it to be used as a source in research papers because of that unreliability.  However, it is okay as a starting point.

  • Under Pope Paul 6Th, the Vatican Bank has flourished. This pope appointed a man who was able to improve the return on the Lira. Unfortunately, the Vatican Bank became a place where the Mafia could laundered their money. When Pope John Paul I was elected, one of the thing he had on his agenda was to dissolve the Vatican Bank. This Pope was poisoned before he could act. The Italian Police were able to zero in on one of the cardinals has being the go between the Mafia and the Vatican bank. It toke the Italian police 11 years to get the cardinal out of the Vatican City. Cardinal Marciscus was finally arrested has he step over the line that limits Vatican City. Still the Vatican continued to flourished. This bank has open up banks under different names worldwide. If you get the book "Vatican's Gold" written by Nino Lobello, you will se how the Vatican Bank became so rich.

And so you know most info that comes from a wiki is questionable most of the time yet not copy written.  Questionable since anyone can edit and modify the information.

  • Alex, this sounds like a quote.  Copyright law requires credit to be given, so please provide a link or other citation.  Thanks.

  • The Istituto per le Opere di Religione (VATICAN BANK) was founded on 27 June 1942 by Pope Pius XII. It absorbed the Amministrazione delle Opere di Religione (Administration of the Works of Religion), which had originated in the Commission for Works of Charity (Commissione ad pias causas) established by Pope Leo XIII on 11 February 1887.

  • How,long has the Vatican bank been in existence?
  • There have been hints of a lot of dirty dealing within the Vatican Bank.  I wonder if Ettore was a scapegoat.  I bet the corruption runs deep and wide through the Vatican Bank.  One person can't pull off the things they pulled off.
