  • Hopefully never George, these are disasters we can do without even if we don't like the establishment....

  • Hopefully many years from now, George. I live in Washington... But I would not be surprised if it was much sooner.

  • I have been watching Earthquakes for over two decades and I have never seen this busy of a day for quakes!!!

Looking over the historical records we are now in a earthquake prone period.  I wonder when the USGS will announce this?  It is like the 50s and 60s again.

Will we get another Hurricane like Camile this year?

Will we get some of the same Earthquake patters as the Sumatra mega quakes of 2004 and 2007.

When is the US (Washington) going to get hit with their 8 or 9 quake?

  • Depending on the direction of the siesmic waves the impact near the boulders could have been minimal growing exponentially in the direction the waves were traveling..... great question by the way.

  •
It started 26 kilometers (16 mi) south of Guadalupe Victoria, the strongest shaking was felt in the ejido of Alberto Oviedo Mota, municipality of Mexicali, at a Marcalli intensity scale of VIII (Severe). In Mexicali, Calexico and Guadalupe Victoria it rated VII (Very Strong), while in Ensenada and Tijuana it measured VI (Strong). Most of the damage in this earthquake occurred in the twin cities of Mexicali and Calexico on the Mexico-United States, I think it was at a depth of 10kilometers but can be wrong.  By any chance do you happen to know the distance from where the image was taken to Alberto Oviedo Mota....
  • Seems strange that a 7.2 wouldn't move the quakes, how far was the epicenter of the quake.  A seven is capable of bringing down buildings, causing a few rocks to tumble seems significantly easier.....

  • Honestly since gravity is doing most of the work 5 maybe even less.

  • The expression Richter Magnitude Scale refers to a number of ways to assign a single number to quantify the energy contained in an earthquake.

In all cases, the magnitude is a base-10 logarithmic scale obtained by calculating the logarithm of the amplitude of waves measured by a seismograph. An earthquake that measures 5.0 on the Richter scale has a shaking amplitude 10 times larger and corresponds to an energy release of √1000 ≈ 31.6 times greater than one that measures 4.0....

So an 8 is exponentially more powerful than a 7 but here is where things get dicy....

There are 7 or 8 different ways to measure this number which confuses the issue but is necessary, the math is well above my head and I will not be even venturing a guess as to which is most accurate but it is known that after 8 magnitude its nearly impossible to define the destructiveness of an earthquake adequately but so there is no confusion.  A 10 on this scale would be exponentially stronger and larger than a 9 on a much higher scale than two to one.  10-20 times more powerful and distructive....at the very least.....It would be a world event.
  • Good question.  Maybe just more disinfo.

  • Your earthquake dream was part of your awakening too.
