Rick Vetter was rushing to board the Amtrak train in Charlotte, N.C., on a recent Sunday afternoon when a canine officer suddenly blocked the way.
Three federal air marshals in bulletproof vests and two officers trained to spot suspicious behavior watched closely as Seiko, a German shepherd, nosed Vetter's trousers for chemical traces of a bomb. Radiation detectors carried by the marshals scanned the 57-year-old lawyer for concealed nuclear materials.
When Seiko indicated a scent, his handler, Julian Swaringen, asked Vetter whether he had pets at home in Garner, N.C. Two mutts, Vetter replied. "You can go ahead," Swaringen said.
The Transportation Security Administration isn't just in airports anymore. TSA teams are increasingly conducting searches and screenings at train stations, subways, ferry terminals and other mass transit locations around the country.
"We are not the Airport Security Administration," said Ray Dineen, the air marshal in charge of the TSA office in Charlotte. "We take that transportation part seriously."
The TSA's 25 "viper" teams — for Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response — have run more than 9,300 unannounced checkpoints and other search operations in the last year. Department of Homeland Security officials have asked Congress for funding to add 12 more teams next year.
According to budget documents, the department spent $110 million in fiscal 2011 for "surface transportation security," including the TSA's viper program, and is asking for an additional $24 million next year. That compares with more than $5 billion for aviation security.
TSA officials say they have no proof that the roving viper teams have foiled any terrorist plots or thwarted any major threat to public safety. But they argue that the random nature of the searches and the presence of armed officers serve as a deterrent and bolster public confidence.
"We have to keep them [terrorists] on edge," said Frank Cilluffo, director of the Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University in Washington. "We're not going to have a permanent presence everywhere."
U.S. officials note that digital files recovered from Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan after he was killed by U.S. Navy SEALs in May included evidence that the Al Qaeda leader had considered an attack on U.S. railways in February 2010. Over the last decade, deadly bombings have hit subways or trains in Moscow; Mumbai, India; Madrid; and London.
But critics say that without a clear threat, the TSA checkpoints are merely political theater. Privacy advocates worry that the agency is stretching legal limits on the government's right to search U.S. citizens without probable cause — and with no proof that the scattershot checkpoints help prevent attacks.
"It's a great way to make the public think you are doing something," said Fred H. Cate, a professor at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, who writes on privacy and security. "It's a little like saying, 'If we start throwing things up in the air, will they hit terrorists?' ''
Such criticism is nothing new to the TSA.
The agency came under fresh fire this month when three elderly women with medical devices complained that TSA agents had strip-searched them in separate incidents at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Lenore Zimmerman, 84, said she was ordered to pull down her pants after she refused to pass through a full body scanner because she was afraid the machine would interfere with her heart defibrillator.
TSA officials denied the women were strip-searched, but they announced plans to create a toll-free telephone number for passengers with medical conditions who require assistance in airport screening lines. TSA officials said they also are considering a proposal by Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) to designate a passengers advocate at every airport.
The TSA's viper program hasn't drawn that kind of attention, although it is increasingly active.
In Tennessee in October, a viper team used radiation monitors and explosive-trace detectors to help state police inspect trucks at highway weigh stations throughout the state. Last month in Orlando, Fla., a team set up metal detectors at a Greyhound bus station and tested passengers' bags for explosive residue.
In the Carolinas this year, TSA teams have checked people at the gangplanks of cruise ships, the entrance to NASCAR races, and at ferry terminals taking tourists to the Outer Banks.
At the Charlotte train station on Dec. 11, Seiko, the bomb-sniffing dog, snuffled down a line of about 100 passengers waiting to board an eastbound train. Many were heading home after watching the Charlotte Panthers NFL team lose to the Atlanta Falcons after holding a 16-point lead.
No one seemed especially perturbed by the TSA team.
"It's probably overkill," said Karen Stone, 26, after a behavior-detection officer asked her about the Panthers game and her trip home to Raleigh.
"It's cool," said Marcus Baldwin, 21, who was heading home to Mebane, near Burlington, where he waits tables to help pay for computer technology classes. "They're doing what our tax money is paying them to do."
"I'm mostly curious," said Barbara Spencer, 75, who was heading home to Chapel Hill after watching her grandson perform in a Christmas play. She asked the officers whether a terrorist threat had required the extra security. No, they replied.
Vetter, the lawyer, had attended the game with his son, Noah. They jogged for the train after Seiko had finished his sniff, but Vetter had bigger worries on his mind. "The Panthers blew it," he said.

CMEs TARGET EARTH, MARS: The odds of a geomagnetic storm on Dec. 28th are improving with the launch of two CMEs toward Earth in less than 24 hours. NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft photographed this one on Dec. 26th:
According to a forecast track prepared by analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab, the cloud should squarely strike Earth's magnetic field on Dec. 28th at 20:22 UT (+/- 7 hours). Another CME could deliver a glancing blow a few hours earlier on the same date. The double impact is expected to spark mild-to-moderate geomagnetic storms at high latitudes. Mars is also in the line of fire. The first of the two CMEs is squarely directed toward the Red Planet--estimated time of arrival: Dec. 30th at 1800 UT. Using onboard radiation sensors, NASA's Curiosity rover might be able to sense the CME when it passes the rover's spacecraft en route to Mars.

Iran's navy has started a 10-day drill in international waters near the strategic oil route that passes through the Strait of Hormuz. The exercises, dubbed "Velayat 90", could bring Iranian ships into proximity with United States Navy vessels in the area. "Velayat" is a Persian word for "supremacy" and it is currently used as a title of deference for the Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The war games cover a 2,000km stretch of sea off the Strait of Hormuz, northern parts of the Indian Ocean and into the Gulf of Aden, near the entrance to the Red Sea, state television reported. The drill will be Iran's latest show of strength in the face of mounting international criticism over its controversial nuclear programme, which the West fears is aimed at developing atomic weapons. Tehran denies those charges, insisting the program is for peaceful purposes only. Adm Habibollah Sayyari, the navy chief, said Iran is holding the drill to show off its prowess and defense capabilities. "To show off its might, the navy needs to be present in international waters. It's necessary to demonstrate the navy's defense capabilities," state TV quoted Sayyari as saying. Sayyari said submarines, surface-to-sea missile systems, missile-launching vessels, torpedoes and drones will be employed in the maneuvers. Strategic waterway The Strait of Hormuz is of strategic significance as the passageway for about a third of the world's oil tanker traffic. Beyond it lie vast bodies of water, including the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Very troubling especially when coupled with Alex Jones' latest video. The time is now folks,the conspiracy theories are coming to pass one by one. While America sits by as independent observers!
Now tell me side from marching and protesting what can be done to convey they disgust we feel with this road that we are being led down? What in your opinion can be done to make them understand that there are those of us who will not , who cannot lay down and allow this to happen?
I am all open to action, but what kind of action can we take? Because the only thing I see is action like that which sparked the Arab Spring. Does a person have to stand up in the middle of a prominent square and set themselves on fire for people to take notice that something is horribly wrong?
Or will that also be an exercise in futility because Americans are too far gone to care or even notice?
I say tht because I see the people around me who know absolutely nothing o what is going on around them. Yet when one tries to speak with htem and explain all the things that are happening. they do not ant to hear it because it upsets their little fantasy that life continues as usual and all is well. This is a situation that is extremely disturbing to me as I watch all the zombies and very few of the awakened.
What do we do ? Any \ideas any suggestions? And please no rhetoric about what should have been done and undercover commando actions unless you are going to tell us how and willing to give specifics. I am tired of the sanctimonious telling others what they must do but unwilling to give details or take the forefront . Simply limiting themselves to judge those that have done nothing or are at a loss as to how to proceed. I want honest observations and determination. Perhaps this is an exercise in futility and w will all sit back waiting or the brave soul that sets themselves alight. We will see we will continue to hope against hope from our chairs watching as we rage against the machine , but do little else.
I am willing and I am ready , but I must confess I need direction as this is not anything I have done nor am familiar with. I am troubled and I am angry, however , none of that is o use if there is no direction for that energy and emotion. I sit here and shed tears of frustration. What will we do ? What will you do ?

Upon Release of Martial Law Documents, The Plan For America's Destruction Becomes Apparent
The top news story of 2011 is not the assassination of Osama Bin Laden (a CIA psyop), but the advancement of the Martial Law agenda in America under the public radar.
On Wednesday, December 21, Infowars.com published a brand new Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) document dated November 18, 2011, that "that show military involvement in a FEMA-led takeover within the United States under partially-classified Continuity of Government (COG) plans," and designate "the American people as ‘enemies’ under a live military tracking system known as Blue Force Situational Awareness (BFSA)."
The FEMA document, appearing under the headline "National Continuity Programs (NCP) Program and Mission Support Services (PAMSS)," ask contractors to assist FEMA in national emergencies. But don't let the bureaucratic language fool you. This is really a Martial Law document. FEMA is not interested in emergency preparedness, but in establishing a military dictatorship in the United States.
Ordinary Americans are classified as the enemy in this FEMA document, and similar Martial Law documents, such as this one from Halliburton/KBR that Infowars.com published on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. The militaristic language that appears in these Martial Law documents, and in the draconian NDAA bill that the treacherous Congress passed last week, suggests that the hijacked U.S. government desires that there be insurgents and domestic terrorists in the United States.
The traitors in Washington need enemies, both foreign and domestic, in order for the politically and morally bankrupt National Security State to remain relevant and powerful in American society. This is a militarist and secret system that is led by the most evil personalities in the 21st century who create fake enemies (Al-Qaeda) and stage false flag terrorist attacks (9/11) just to remain in power. The word restraint does not exist in their vocabulary.

If the facts were known, Martial Law in America, and North America, would be defeated before it is even implemented. A military dictatorship won't last for long if enough people speak up and fight back. We have the numbers, the truth, and the bravery to reclaim freedom for future generations to live happily and prosper in this new century. The traitors and terrorists in Washington are not on the right side of history. They are cowards to be defeated, not giants to be feared.
And the truth is they are scared and ashamed, that's why they do everything in secret. The shameful FEMA document was posted on a government website called FBO.gov, but was immediately taken down after radio host Alex Jones alerted his listeners to the existence of the document and discussed its broader significance. This shows that the hijacked U.S. government is controlled by very frightened and pathetic people who know they are crossing a red line by quietly setting up a military dictatorship in America.
Aaron Dykes explained why the government's censorship of the document is unwarranted in his article, "Government censors document revealing plans to wage war on Americans":
Some facts can no longer be denied and dismissed. It is not a theory that is America is being destroyed by the traitors and terrorists in Washington. It is reality. It is self-evident.

American law professor and lawyer Jonathan Turley said on C-SPAN on December 19, 2011 that most Americans do not fear any foreign threats like Al-Qaeda, but their own unresponsive and out-of-control government:

American law professor and lawyer Jonathan Turley said on C-SPAN on December 19, 2011 that most Americans do not fear any foreign threats like Al-Qaeda, but their own unresponsive and out-of-control government:
"We've had three polls in the last year and they all show the same thing. The American people say that they are more afraid of the government than they are outside forces like terrorists. So there's this disconnect. The majority of Americans are actually very concerned about the loss of rights, but Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, can't move harder against privacy. And this is part of the cynical calculation. I think that President Obama made this calculation early on and decided that no one would be to the right of him on terrorism and national security, and he has taken the Democratic party with him on that.In the near future, Washington may not even exist. The wild wolves of the new world order in the shadow CIA, and their partners in crime in the shadow Mossad, could burn down Washington D.C. in a false flag attack and relocate in Denver, Colorado.
So you have this remarkable disconnect, where the majority of citizens are going, 'We're really concerned about this. We are fearful of our own government,' and yet it's just not translating on the hill."
