Satellite will fall back to Earth, but where?

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

• Nobody knows where or when fragments will strike Earth
• Pieces most likely to hit oceans and unpopulated areas

-- A European satellite that ran out of fuel will start falling in the
next few days, and fragments of the disintegrating 2,000-pound
spacecraft are expected to strike the Earth's surface.

Nobody
knows where or when the fragments will hit, but the European Space
Agency has said the parts are likely to fall into the ocean or
unpopulated areas. Potential spots will be narrowed down closer to
re-entry, ESA said on its website.

Re-entry
probably will occur Sunday or Monday, Rune Floberghagen, mission
manager for the Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Explorer, better
known as GOCE, told the New York Times.

GOCE
was launched in 2009 to map variations in the Earth's gravity in 3D,
provide ocean circulation patterns and make other measurements.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A…. (substituting grades for dollars – something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that.

Here are possibly the 5 key points about such an experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

 

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

 

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

 

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

 

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

In response to the polio outbreak in war-torn Syria, United Nations officials today announced an immunization campaign aiming to reach 20 million children in seven countries over the next 6 months.

Officials also said preliminary evidence suggests that the polio strain in Syria is of Pakistani origin and is similar to the strains detected in sewage in Egypt, Israel, and the Palestinian territories (the West Bank and Gaza Strip) in the past year.

The announcement from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) called the effort "the largest-ever consolidated immunization response in the Middle East." It targets children in Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and the Palestinian territories.

Syria's polio outbreak is the first there since 1999 and has left 10 children paralyzed. Emergency polio immunization efforts in and around Syria have already reached 650,000 children, including 116,000 in the "highly contested" northeastern province of Deir-ez-Zor, where the outbreak was confirmed last week, the WHO statement said.

It said the campaign aims to reach 1.6 million children in Syria with vaccines against polio, measles, mumps, and rubella. Syria's polio immunization rate has dropped from 90% before the civil war to 68% today.

In Jordan, more than 18,800 children under age 5 in the Za'atari refugee camp have received polio vaccine in the past few days, and a nationwide campaign aims to reach 3.5 million people with polio, measles, and rubella vaccines, the WHO said. A vaccination drive has also been launched in western Iraq, and another will start soon in the country's Kurdistan region.

In addition, Lebanon plans to launch a nationwide immunization campaign later this week, and efforts in Turkey and Egypt are expected to start by mid-November, the agency said.

"The Middle East has shown exactly the coordinated leadership needed to combat a deadline virus: a consolidated and sustained assault on a vaccine-preventable disease and an extraordinary commitment to a common purpose," said Ala Alwan, MD, the WHO's regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, in the WHO statement.

UNICEF has acquired 1.35 billion doses of polio vaccine so far this year and will have obtained up to 1.7 billion doses by year's end to meet increased demand, the UN agencies said. The Syrian outbreak has increased the pressure on a global supply that was already being stretched, they said.

Etheric Plane Clearing / Event Preview

I want to know who else has experienced this.

Last week, I had a wide-awake vision of the etheric plane being cleared completely. For a few minutes, I thought the Event was happening now- but I then realized it was either a preview, a spark event, or just a localized occurrence.

To characterize it as awe-inspiring would be an understatement. The whole etheric plane was lit up with a dazzling golden/white light, and I saw vortices, like huge tornadoes, opening up everywhere. These wormholes were like gravitic vacuums, and all the dark beings in the etheric plane were tumbling into them by the millions. There was a sense of vast scale, that it was happening everywhere. It left me wide-eyed, taking my vibration up a few octaves.

Medical authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia announced three new Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) cases today, one in the UAE and two in Saudi Arabia.

The case detected in the UAE is in a 75-year-old man from Oman who is hospitalized in Abu Dhabi, according to WAM, the UAE's state news service. The man is visiting the UAE and became ill with respiratory symptoms in October. He is being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU), according to the report.

The WAM information came from the Abu Dhabi health authority, which said it is coordinating with the UAE's health ministry and has taken steps recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The man's infection is the sixth MERS-CoV case detected in the UAE, and he is the second Omani known to be infected with the virus.

Saudi cases

Elsewhere, Saudi Arabia's health ministry said in a statement in Arabic that one of the country's newest cases involves a 72-year-old male resident of Riyadh who has several underlying chronic conditions. He is hospitalized in stable condition and is receiving treatment in the ICU.

The other Saudi case is in a previously healthy 43-year-old from Jeddah who is hospitalized in an ICU. The health ministry said the patient had not recently traveled outside of Jeddah.

The new cases announced today would lift the global total to 154 cases, including 64 deaths.

Surveillance efforts

In other developments today, Ziad A. Memish, MD, Saudi Arabia' s deputy minister for public health, spoke about MERS-CoV at the European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology (ESCAIDE) in Stockholm.

He told the group that active surveillance for the disease is under way, with a special focus on Hajj premises, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in live tweets from the meeting. He also noted that one of the key questions about MERS-CoV is why the virus behaves differently in different people, a factor that suggests transmission is more complex than previously thought.

European and Spanish health officials released new details today about a Spanish woman who is hospitalized with a Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection after visiting Hajj holy sites in Saudi Arabia, plus efforts under way to identify those who flew with her from Jeddah to Madrid.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said today in an updated risk assessment that the 61-year-old woman with no known underlying health conditions was in Saudi Arabia from Oct 2 to Nov 1. She visited Medina, then Mecca and had no known contact with animals.

Her symptoms began Oct 15 with cough and fever, and she was seen at a hospital emergency department of a Mecca hospital on Oct 28 and 29, where health workers diagnosed her as having pneumonia, based on chest x-ray findings.

Spain's health ministry told CIDRAP News that it has relayed more details about the case to European health authorities, including that the woman refused to be hospitalized in Saudi Arabia and was hospitalized in Madrid on Nov 1 when she arrived back in Spain.

According to the ECDC, the patient was sick during the flight and needed oxygen treatment while she was aboard.

The health ministry said she was in Medina from Oct 2 through Oct 10 and in Mecca from Oct 11 through Nov 1.

The patient is still listed in stable condition and has not required intensive care, according to the health ministry.  She was placed in a private room on Nov 1, and her medical team instituted respiratory isolation measures on Nov 4 when they suspected the woman was infected with MERS-CoV.

Japan is bracing itself for the most
dangerous operation at the Fukushima nuclear plant since it was
crippled by a quake and tsunami in March 2011. The company running the
facility plans to move radioactive fuel rods to safe storage. RT's

IAEA experts inspect seawater checks off Fukushima
Two
experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency have inspected the
procedures for checking radioactivity in seawater off the damaged
Fukushima plant.
David Osborn directs the IAEA Environment
Laboratories in Monaco and Hartmut Nies is the head of the IAEA
Radiometrics Laboratory.
They left Onahama port in Fukushima Prefecture on board a boat for seawater monitoring on Thursday.
The
plant's operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Company, commissioned the
boat to collect water samples within 20 kilometers of the facility.
The
inspection took place after Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority and
the IAEA agreed to cooperate to bolster the credibility of seawater
checks and analysis.
International concern over radioactive
contamination of the sea is growing because of repeated leaks of tainted
water at the plant.
Osborn said methods to collect seawater samples
were appropriate under international standards. He said the IAEA will
continue to cooperate if requested by Japan.
On Friday, the team is scheduled to visit a facility where collected samples are analyzed for levels of radioactive substances.
